Opá, yo viazé un corrá
| Hace un par de meses me mandaron un enlace a un video musical de un tío que se hace llamar "El Koala", cuya principal gracia parecía ser que pronunciaba con un marcado acento andaluz. La canción era "Opá, yo viazé un corrá" ("Papá, yo voy a hacer un corral"), una muestra de una corriente denominada "agro-rock", "rock rural", "rock rústico", o algo así. Me dio la impresión que era alguien que se había aprendido dos o tres acordes y había tenido un golpe de suerte. El tema se perfila para ser "la canción del verano" en España. Ahora me han enviado un enlace a una aparición que hizo el Koala en MTV España y veo que de suerte, nada, el tío se lo ha currado y tiene el talento que viene con muchos años de tocadas. The song was "Opá, yo viazé un corrá" ("Dad, I'm going to build a corral"), a sample of a style called "agro-rock", "rural rock", "rustic rock", or something like that. I got the impression he learned two or three chords and got lucky. It seems the song will become the de facto "theme of the summer" in Spain. Now I've received a link to an appearance he made on an MTV Spain show and I realize it hasn't been a matter of luck, this guy's seems worthy of his current success and has the talent that comes with years of gigs. May update
| Es un poco irónico que con tanto acerca de qué escribir últimamente--he estado escuchando un montón de cosas buenas y haciendo unos viajecillos por ahí--dedique menos tiempo al blog. Pero con más viajes y más música aproximándose, trataré de mencionar algunas de las cosas sobresalientes. | It's a bit ironic that with so much to write about recently--been listening to a lot of good stuff, doing a bit of travelling--I seem to spend less time on this blog. But with both more trips and more music coming up, I'll try to menion some of the highlights here. | |
| Música Además de los discos listados en la sección de "hearing" a la derecha (todos muy recomendables, excepto, quizás, el EP de Kula Shaker), también he conseguido "Descended Like Vultures" de Rogue Wave, "Simpatico" de Charlatans, "Song from Black Mountain" de Live (y aún me pregunto cómo es que salió en Europa un mes entero antes que en EEUU...), "You In Reverse" de Built to Spill, y "How We Operate" de Gomez. Ni siquiera he podido escuchar el nuevo de Snow Patrol y otras cosas que han salido. Hoy me enteré de que Muse sacó una canción y un video nuevo ayer ("Supermassive Black Hole", Windows Media, Real) y ya estoy enganchado. Su nuevo album, "Black Holes and Revelations", saldrá el 11 de julio, el mismo día que Thom Yorke saca su album "por-favor-no-lo-llamen-de-solista", "The Eraser". (Como suscriptor de W.A.S.T.E., recibí una "carta" de Thom el otro día donde anuncia y explica su proyecto, pensaba copiarla aquí, pero quizás otro día.) Y pronto salen también cosas nuevas de Keane, Zero 7 y otros. | Music In addition to the albums listed in the "hearing" section to the right (all of which are very recommendable, except, maybe, the Kula Shaker EP), I've also gotten Rogue Wave's "Descended Like Vultures", Charlatans' "Simpatico", Live's "Song from Black Mountain" (still wondering why it came out in Europe a full month before the US...), Built to Spill's "You In Reverse", and Gomez' "How We Operate". | Podcasts Para mi cumpleaños, Marta me mejoró mi Shuffle a un Nano (estoy esperando al verdadero iPod de video antes de comprar un modelo con una cantidad descabellada de gigas), y aunque ya llevaba rato suscrito a algunos podcasts, la verdad es que nunca los escuchaba. Pero ahora que los puedo sincronizar con mi iPod, me he enganchado a varios podcasts de NPR y KCRW. Si no lo has hecho ya, es *imperante* que cheques All Songs Considered y el resumen musical semanal de NPR, así como The Morning Becomes Eclectic y Today's Top Tune de KCRW. Trataré de hablar más de estos y otros podcasts más adelante. | Podcasts Marta upgraded my Shuffle to a Nano for my birthday (I'm holding off 'til the real iPod video comes out to get the crazy-capacity model), and although I'd subscribed to a few podcasts a while back, I never really listened to them. But now that I can sync them up with my iPod, I've gotten hooked on several NPR and KCRW shows. If you haven't already, you *must* check out NPR's All Songs Considered and their weekly music summary, and KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic and Today's Top Tune. | Eventos y otras cosas Pues fui al Observatori a principios de mayo y me arrepiento de haber visto sólo el 20 ó 30% de las exhibiciones y los conciertos, a la próxima me compro seguro el pase para los tres días del evento. Fui a Madrid, Houston y Altea después, y antes de que el mes termine espero ver un poco de Bélgica y Holanda... y ver *mucho* del festival PinkPop. Quería ir al Sónar en junio, pero comienza a parecer muy probable que nos mudemos a otro piso ese mes, así que habrá que esperar otro año... | Events/Other So I went to Observatori in early May and regret only catching maybe 20 or 30% of it, next time I'll spring for the 3-day pass. Went to Madrid, Houston and Altea later, and before the month's over expect to have seen a bit of Belgium and Holland... and *a lot* of the PinkPop festival. Was hoping to have gone to Sónar in June, but it seems likely we'll be moving to a new apartment that month, so that may have to wait 'til next year... |
