Kasabian - Empire
| Entre los muchos discos que había estado esperando con ansias este año estaba el segundo disco de Kasabian, "Empire". Salió hace un par de semanas, y aunque no es malo (y en definitiva mejor que mucho de lo que está allá afuera), sí lo encontré más débil que su debut. Sé que en este blog repetidamente hago referencia a albums de rock "teñidos de electrónica" y con "ritmos bailables", y el debut de Kasabian era justo eso, pero tenía además tanto chulerío y siniestrismo que lo separaba de, digamos, Franz Ferdinand y The Bravery, para aproximarlo más al material de solista de Ian Brown. Este disco nuevo tiene todo esto, pero han acelerado el compás tanto que ahora suenan más a Primal Scream en su época de "XTRMNTR" o a los temas más poperos de Chemical Brothers (como "Let Forever Be"). Aunque no puedo decir que el album no tienen buenas canciones (pero debo admitir que tengo muy baja tolerancia para "British Legion"), encontré difícil elegir cuatro canciones para incluír en mi sección de "Listing To" a la derecha, porque no hay cuatro tracks en este disco a los que me sintiera atraído de inmediato, un lugar muy distinto a en el que me encontré con su debut, en el que me habría resultado difícil elegir mis 4 canciones favoritas entre tantos temas re-buenos. | Among the many albums I was eagerly anticipating this year was Kasabian's sophomore effort, "Empire". So it came out a couple of weeks ago, and although it's not a bad album (certainly better than a lot of the stuff out there), I do find it weaker than than their debut. I realize I keep referring to "elctronics-tinged" rock albums with "dance-grooves" in this blog, and Kasabian's debut was just that, but had an added swagger and sinisterness that separated it from, say, Franz Ferdinand or The Bravery, and put it more in the league of Ian Brown's solo stuff. The new album still has most of that, but they've upped the tempo so much that they now sound more like Primal Scream circa "XTRMNTR" or the Chemical Brothers' poppier tunes (think "Let Forever Be"). Although I can't bring myself to say the album doesn't have good songs on it (but I admit I have very little tolerance for "British Legion"), I found it difficult to pick the four tracks I would include in my "Listening To" section on the right, 'cuz there aren't four tracks on this album I felt immediately drawn to, a very different place from the one I found myself in with their debut, where I would have had a hard time picking my four favorite tracks among so many great songs. |
