Friday fun (Film Festivals in SF)
Sólo he estado aquí poco más de un mes, y podría jurar que esta ciudad ha sido anfitriona a al menos cuatro festivales de cine ya: el Independent Film Festival, el Irish Film Festival, el Asian-American Film Festival, y el Tiburon International Film Festival (bueno, no exactamente en San Francisco, pero sólo cruzando la bahía); y seguro se me está olvidando uno o dos. También vi un anuncio para una fiesta de "Big Lebowski" en algún boliche, en el que la gente va disfrazada como su personaje favorito de ese clásico de los hermanos Coen. Pero leyendo un periódico local el otro día me enteré de un especie de 'festival permanente': cada semana se celebra Bad Movie Night (la noche de la película mala), con una temática distinta cada mes. Marzo es el mes de "Envenenamiento con plomo y testosterona: Hiper-Violencia de la Era Reagan" con pelis con Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charles Bronson, Chuck Norris y Patrick Swayze (¿?). Aún y cuando no llegues al cine, el sitio es bastante entretenido en sí mismo, particularmente sus reseñas de dos líneas. | I've only been here a little over a month, and I swear this city has hosted a minimum of 4 movie festivals already: the Independent Film Festival, the Irish Film Festival, the Asian-American Film Festival, and the Tiburon International Film Festival (well, not exactly San Francisco, but just across the bay); and I'm probably forgetting one or two. I also saw an ad for a yearly "Big Lebowski" party at some bowling alley, where people go dressed as their favorite character from that classic Coen Brothers movie. But reading a local paper the other day I noticed a 'permanent' festival of sorts: The weekly Bad Movie Night, with a changing theme every month. March is the "Lead and Testosterone Poisoning Reagan-Era Hyper-Violence", with movies starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Charles Bronson, Chuck Norris and Patrick Swayze (WTF?). Even if you can't make it to the movie, the website is pretty entertaining in itself, specially their two-line movie summaries. |
