New music this week

Back from a handful of nice days (and nights!) in New York. This week the new R.E.M. and Moby albums hit the shelves. Although R.E.M. has suffered a lot of backlash since the departure of Bill Berry over 10 years ago because of their tendencies towards pop, synthesizers and drum and effect machines, I personally *love* their post-Berry albums; I might take a beating myself for saying this, but, to me, the last 6 songs on Up is probably the most beautiful suite of songs they ever placed back-to-back on a single album. So I was worried this new record, announced as a rawer, more traditional rock-sounding collection, would be disappointing (like, say, Monster or New Adventures in Hi-Fi.) It's not; it's quite good, actually. It is comprised mostly of guitars, bass and drums, but Michael Stipe's layering of his own voice makes up for all the missing instruments and effects. As far as Moby's album goes, yeah, I was at his listening party last week, but with all the simultaneous conversations going on, I could barely hear the album. Below is the video of the first single off the record; I know the guy's a vegan and can understand he'd try to get his message out in his videos, but something about the song and the images just don't mix. Here's hoping this isn't the best song on the record.

Hola no he podido contestarte antes.
Saluditos :)
